Alien Registration after Arrival in Korea

All foreigners planning to stay in Korea for more than 90 days must report to the Seoul Immigration Office (89-4, Kyoungun-dong, Jongno-gu, Tel : 732-6214, 6215) and register for the Alien Registration Card (외국인등록증) within 90 days from the date of arrival. To apply for the Alien Registration Card, you need a long term visa.
Within the orientation session for new exchange students, you will submit all the documents which are required to complete the Alien Registration. The documents are listed below;

1. Alien Registration Form (form will be given at the OT)
2. Passport
3. Certificate of Attendance: issuable from the Student Service Center
4. Two Recent Passport-size Color Photos: 3cm x 4cm
5. Application Fee: 30,000 won

In takes approximately 7 business days for the Immigration Office to process the application. Applicants must leave their passport with the Immigration Office during this period and the office will return it when the applications is completed. If the Alien Registration Card is lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed; or if the applicant needs to change any information on the card or if the card runs out of spaces for additional information or changes, the applicant must visit Seoul Immigration office and apply for re-issuance or change the card within 14 days. Foreigners must always carry their Alien Registration Card or their passport with them.
